Rabi - Ul - Awal

Updated: Oct 31, 2020

Rabi ul Awal is the most important month for the muslims as our beloved holy prophet Muhammad born in this month. On 12th of this month prophet (PBUH) born to Hazrat Amina (R.A.)

We all know celebration of this day has always been a conflicting issue b/w muslims. On this day we come across two type of groups:

Group A: People who are in favour of celebrating this day as Eid.

Group B: People who consider 12 rabi ul awal celebrations as a bidat.

So, What could be the best way to celebrate this month and 12th of rabi ul awal?

Alhamdulillah! Islam is a complete religion and our prophet has guided us about every thing through his actions and sunnah.

There are two ways to celebrate this occasion one is the sunnah way and the other one is ijtihad (mutual consensus of scholars)

It is narrated in Hadees # 2750 of sahih muslim that :

Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) was asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said: It is (the day) when I was born and revelation was sent down to me.

It gives a clue towards the sunnah way to celebrate his day of birth, (btw we can also use this sunnah for our birthdays instead of wasting money on fancy decorations and cake, IMO)

But the other things which we can also do in this month and specifically on 12th of rabi ul awal - based on ijtihad - are:

  1. Instead of spreading hate and negativity against anyone, let the group A people celebrate and don’t let them convince group B to be part of your celebration, if they don want to be. Simple.

  2. Arrange milad for the sake of sharing knowledge about sunnah and seerat e Nabi (ص)

  3. Send your darood and salam to prophet as much as you can

  4. Offer additional nafal and prayers to thank Allah SWT that we born as ummiti of Muhammad ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ )

  5. Donate as much as you can

  6. Most importantly read prophet’s sunnah and try to make it part of your life atleast adopt a single sunnah per month.
